This is a hugely emotive subject. I do agree with the author that the financial consequences of opting out of work when you have kids is not discussed enough. The 'long-term risks of economic dependency' are real. I have seen it myself many times - divorced women in their 50s who haven't worked in many years, struggling to find their financial footing. It's a scary place to find yourself and it is happening more and more often.
