What I have been reading - 8th September 2021

Here’s what I enjoyed reading over the past week or so:

The Secret to Happiness at Work: Arthur Brooks on what it is that makes us satisfied in our jobs.

Believing in yourself is overrated. This is better: Ryan Holiday has some wisdom in this piece.

Where Greatness Lies: Charlie Bilello reminds us that calm markets don't make good investors. This is a good piece for those who think this whole investing thing is easy. I also recommend Not All Risk is Rewarded which highlights why we stay diversified.

Your Home Is Not An Investment: As I always say, your primary residence is a lifestyle choice - it's not an investment. I know it is possible to make money on property but you need good timing and a bit of luck. Framing property purchases correctly in your mind is important.

Eighteen Year Breakups Are Never Easy: This is a wonderful article. Having an awareness of what money can do and what it can't do is, I believe, a large part of contentment.

Instead: Seth Godin on what you can do instead.

Lumber prices: The lumber price chart is quite extraordinary.

FINALLY:
Female octopuses throw things at males that are harassing them: Seems like quite a sensible strategy to me.

ENJOY!
